چکیده

Dirofilariosis by Dirofilaria immitis and repens is endemic in dogs from countries of the Mediterranean basin. Both species may infect humans, with most infected patients remaining asymptomatic. Based on recent description southernmost hyperendemic European focus heartworm disease Pelagie archipelagos, we performed a serological molecular survey human population that area. Human blood samples were collected islands Linosa (n=101) Lampedusa (n=296) tested ELISA test for detection D. repens. Samples also screened filarioid-associated endosymbionts, Wolbachia sp. The seroprevalence was, respectively, 7.9% 3.96% Linosa, 7.77% 19.93% Lampedusa. Out 397 molecularly, 4 scored positive (1%) spp. qPCR (i.e., three one repens) 6 (1.5%) Wolbachia. Feline Dirofilaria immitis infection

AffectedAnimals: Dogs and cats. Overall, cats are infected by heartworms much less commonly, even in areas in which heavily infected dogs are present. Male cats tend to be infected more commonly and have a larger worm burden than female cats, mostly because male cats spend more time roaming outside and have less resistance to infection than female cats. Cats that spend significant amounts of ti...

Dirofilaria immitis infection in a Dachshund dog: Diagnosis and Treatment

Dirofilaria immitis is a filariid worm which typically lives as adult in the right ventricle of the heart and the pulmonary arteries of the dog, causing the canine heartworm disease. Therapy of canine dirofilariosis due to Dirofilaria immitis is indicated for dogs suffering from clinical signs of the disease (such as chronic cough). The present paper describes diagnostic and treatment features ...
